00 — Strategy
At a glance
- Your base is a cheat code. Oakwood connects underground to COEX Mall — aquarium, library, the airport bus terminal, and Line 2 are all weather-protected. Use the kitchen for breakfasts, the laundry mid-trip, and the indoor pool on tired afternoons.
- Weather-flex daily. Outdoor things in the morning, an indoor Plan B every day. The back half is rainier; Jeju (early July) is rainier still.
- Don't over-schedule. With a 2-year-old, one "big" thing + one "easy" thing per day is the sweet spot. Rest mornings are built in.
- Geography clusters keep transit short: Gangnam/COEX (home), Jamsil (2 stops east), Yongsan/Itaewon, the old core, and the west (Hongdae/Seoul Forest).
01 — Itinerary
Day by day
Times are loose. "Home cluster" = walkable or 1–2 subway stops from Oakwood.

Arrival & settle — home cluster
Arrival Take the 6103 airport bus from Incheon to COEX City Air Terminal (~70–85 min), then walk to the hotel. Kids under 5 ride free.

Expect a 3–5 a.m. wake-up the first few days — lean into early starts.
Day 2 · Tue Jun 17
Ease-in day — home cluster
AM COEX Aquarium (indoor, all-ages).

Day 4 · Thu Jun 19
River & green space

AM Insadong + Ssamziegil spiral mall.
Midday Cheonggyecheon walk + Gwangjang Market (go early).
PM Dongdaemun Design Plaza — Zaha Hadid landmark, fully indoor. Dinner is just east in Majang, so this slots in nicely after DDP.
Born and Bred (Seoul / main location)
The original Born and Bred by the Majang meat market — premium hanwoo, one of the city's best beef nights. (Not the Woodfire location.)
Sitter: arrange Oakwood babysitting. ~20–30 min by taxi, or Line 5 to Majang.
Day 11 · Thu Jun 26
West side & playful
AM Trick Eye Museum — 3D illusions, indoor.
Midday Gyeongui Line Forest Park ("Yeontral Park") stroll.
PM Mangwon Market or Seonyudo Park (quiet island garden). Wrap up early — tonight's dinner is back east in Apgujeong.
Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura
Arrive 6:15 PM for the private tour of the Gucci flagship before dinner.
Sitter: arrange Oakwood babysitting. Short taxi from COEX; allow time to cross from the west side.
Day 12 · Fri Jun 27
Gentle hike or shopping
Hike Naksan Park city-wall walk + Ihwa Mural Village (carrier-friendly).
Shop Garosu-gil, Apgujeong/Cheongdam, or Common Ground.
Hidden gem near home: Seonjeongneung royal tombs, a 10-min walk from COEX and nearly tourist-free.
Day 13 · Sat Jun 28
Buffer / weather-flex / 2nd day trip
Hold Catch-up day — redo a favorite, finish shopping, or take the day-trip you skipped on Day 7.
Alt Suwon Hwaseong Fortress (UNESCO) via Line 1 — walls, trolley, archery + Korean Folk Village.
Day 14 · Sun Jun 29
Favorites & wind-down
AM Hotel pool / slow start; souvenirs at COEX or the K-pop shop.
PM/Eve A favorite spot or a calm Hangang sunset. Pack; final Korean BBQ.
Day 15 · Mon Jun 30
Seoul → Jeju — travel day
AM Check out. Head to Gimpo Airport (GMP) — not Incheon — for Jeju flights: taxi or limousine bus, ~45–60 min.
Midday Flight GMP → Jeju (CJU), ~1 hr 10 min.
PM Pick up the rental car at CJU (foreigner counter), drive south ~50–60 min to Parnas Hotel Jeju in Jungmun. Infinity pool awaits.
🚗 Read before you fly — Jeju driving essentials
- Carry a physical IDP plus your home license and passport. The IDP is not optional — desks refuse you without the book-type permit. Get it from AAA before leaving the US.
- Reserve car seats with the rental — required for kids under 6.
- Drive on the right; signage in km. Watch for many speed cameras and slow-speed zones.
- DUI is near-zero-tolerance. On nights you drink, take a taxi (Kakao T) or a daeri driver.
- Navigate with KakaoMap or Naver Map (Google Maps won't route in Korea).
Day 16 · Tue Jul 1
Jungmun coast & waterfalls — near base
AM Jusangjeolli Cliffs — hexagonal volcanic columns, easy boardwalk, ~5-min drive.
Midday Cheonjeyeon Falls — three tiers, arched bridge, shaded.
PM Resort pool + Jungmun Saekdal Beach below the hotel.
Rain backup: Teddy Bear Museum (10-min walk) or ARTE Museum (immersive digital art, indoor).
Day 17 · Wed Jul 2
East-island day trip
AM Drive ~1 hr east to Seongsan Ilchulbong ("Sunrise Peak"). Do the lower viewpoints with the 2-year-old.
Midday Seopjikoji cape + lunch (fresh abalone near Seongsan).
PM Optional Manjanggul Lava Tube (UNESCO; ~1 km cave) on the way back — great rain backup.
Day 18 · Thu Jul 3
West coast & play
AM Hyeopjae Beach — shallow, turquoise, white sand; the best kid swim beach on the island.
Midday Lunch at a café in Aewol (Jeju's café coast).
PM Kid's choice — Shinhwa World theme park, Hello Kitty Island, or the resort.
Mellow alternative: a resort spa/pool morning + the flat, shaded Saryeoni Forest Trail or O'sulloc Tea Museum if everyone needs a slower day. (Skip a full Hallasan summit with little kids.)
Day 19 · Fri Jul 4
Jeju → Gimpo → Paradise City — travel day
AM Breakfast and pack at Parnas; optional last Jungmun beach hour. Drive to CJU (~50–60 min) and return the rental car.
Midday Flight CJU → Gimpo (GMP), ~1 hr 10 min.
Transfer Cross to the airport island: easiest is a taxi (Kakao T) from GMP straight to Paradise City (~30–40 min). Cheaper: AREX from Gimpo to Incheon Airport T1, then Paradise City's free shuttle or the maglev.
Eve Check in and let loose — Wonderbox indoor theme park is weather-proof and made for the kids; the lobby Plaza runs a nightly water/light show. Note: Cimer spa is 10+, so it's a parent break or a treat for the 10-year-old, not the toddler.
📍 Heads-up — Jul 4 is a Saturday, so Cimer/Wonderbox are ~30% off for hotel guests (not free); book the room with passes if you can
Day 20 · Sat Jul 5
Fly home — the easy morning
AM Breakfast, last Wonderbox spin if there's time, pack.
Out Paradise City → Incheon Airport (ICN) via the free shuttle or maglev (~5–20 min) — the most painless airport run of the trip. Fly ICN → PDX. ✈
This finale exists on purpose: you decompress next to the terminal instead of racing across the city on departure morning.
🌧️ Jeju weather note — early July
Heart of the rainy season: heavy, intermittent downpours, high humidity, and a small chance of an early typhoon. Check radar each morning, keep days flexible, and lean on indoor options (ARTE Museum, lava tube, Teddy Bear Museum, O'sulloc) when it pours. Beaches and pools are still very doable between showers.
02 — Where to stay
Neighborhoods (you're well-placed)
You're in Gangnam / Samseong (COEX) — arguably the best family choice: spacious serviced apartment, mall-connected, central on Line 2, safe and quiet at night. If you ever chose again:
- Gangnam / Samseong — space, malls, business-district calm. ✓ your pick
- Jung-gu (Myeongdong / City Hall) — most central for old-core sights, walkable.
- Yongsan / Itaewon — near the big museums, international food, family-friendly.
- Seochon / Bukchon — charming and traditional, but hilly and tight for strollers.
- Skip for young kids: deep Hongdae nightlife blocks (loud late).
03 — Rooms
Hotels by budget
If you need overflow rooms or a comparison point.
- Luxury: Park Hyatt Seoul or Grand InterContinental Parnas (both at COEX); Signiel Seoul for a view splurge.
- Upper-mid / family suites: Oakwood (you) ✓ · Fraser Place Central · Somerset / Shilla Stay.
- Mid: Courtyard Times Square, Nine Tree, L7 hotels — clean, reliable, family rooms.
- Budget: business hotels around Myeongdong / Dongdaemun, or guesthouses with family rooms.
With young kids, prioritize a kitchen and an elevator/low-floor setup over price.
04 — Eat with the kids
Family restaurants
- Korean BBQ (ask for a table): Samwon Garden · Bornga or Maple Tree House (English menus).
- Mild for kids: Tosokchon Samgyetang · Myeongdong Kyoja · Gogung (bibimbap).
- Korean fried chicken: Kyochon, bhc, BBQ Chicken.
- Markets / street food: Gwangjang & Tongin, Mangwon Market.
- Easy wins: Isaac Toast / Egg Drop, gimbap shops, tonkatsu, Sulbing, any CU / GS25 convenience store.
Many traditional spots have floor seating — request table seats with little kids. The COEX food court is the most stroller-friendly.
★ — Adults only
★ Grown-ups' night out
Reserve ~2–4 weeks ahead via CATCHTABLE or the restaurant's site. Line up a sitter first — Oakwood offers babysitting and Parnas has childcare. In Seoul, taxi via Kakao T. On Jeju, never drive after wine — taxi or daeri driver.
Booked — your locked-in nights
Born and Bred (Seoul / main location)
Premium hanwoo by the Majang meat market — the original, not the Woodfire location. (See Day 10.)
Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura
Arrive 6:15 PM for the private Gucci flagship store tour. (See Day 11.)
In Seoul — easy taxi from COEX
- Mosu Seoul (Hannam) — three Michelin stars; contemporary, internationally minded. The big splurge (~₩260k+ pp).
- Pierre Gagnaire à Séoul (Lotte Hotel) — classic French haute cuisine. Your non-Korean pick.
- Mingles (Cheongdam) — two stars, among Asia's best; modern Korean. Right by your neighborhood.
- Jungsik (Cheongdam) — two stars; invented "new Korean."
- Gucci Osteria (Apgujeong) — Massimo Bottura's playful contemporary Italian atop the Gucci flagship. ✓ booked Jun 26, 7 PM.
- Born and Bred (Majang-dong, main location) — premium hanwoo steak night. ✓ booked Jun 25, 8:15 PM.
- Also nearby: Cheongdam/Apgujeong is full of excellent Japanese omakase and Italian (e.g., Alla Prima).
On Jeju — Jungmun preferred
Jeju isn't a Michelin city; the best adult dinners are the resort restaurants in the Jungmun cluster and a couple of destination spots. Everything below is in or minutes from Jungmun unless noted. Reserve ahead, and since you'll be drinking, plan a taxi or the hotel's car — don't drive.
At Parnas — zero transport, sitter upstairs
- The Spanish restaurant (in-hotel) — the resort's destination dinner. Set menus from 7:00 PM, à la carte from 8:00 PM, so book the set seating if you want the full experience. Reserve through the concierge.
- Confetti — all-day dining with ocean views; Korean / Western / Chinese and notably good pastas (the lobster and abalone pastas get singled out). Relaxed but pretty for an easy night.
- Fondmer lounge bar — the atrium cocktail bar for a nightcap once the kids are down.
Walkable / a few minutes away in Jungmun
- Cheonjee at The Shilla Jeju (right next door) — refined multi-course Korean built on Jeju ingredients: grilled black dombe pork, mottled eel, cold cuttlefish soup. Private rooms for 6–14, so it handles a group of 4 with room to spare.
- The Shilla Jeju also runs Japanese and Continental rooms, and Lotte Hotel Jeju (a short hop in the same complex) adds upscale Japanese and Chinese — all resort-grade and easy to reach.
The local splurge — Jeju black pork
- Ask the Parnas concierge for their black-pig (heukdwaeji) BBQ pick — several of the better spots run free hotel pickup and drop-off, which is ideal on a night you're drinking. This is the one quintessentially-Jeju meal worth leaving the resort for.
Worth the drive north (one big night only)
- NOKNAMU at Grand Hyatt Jeju (~40 min north, Jeju City) — an acclaimed Korean BBQ, plus a Japanese venue combining sushi, izakaya and teppanyaki under one roof. Only if you're up for the round-trip taxi.
Finale — at Paradise City
- The resort complex has its own food hall and restaurants, so your last dinner needs zero transport — convenient with tired kids the night before a long flight.
05 — Off the beaten path
Hidden gems & required reservations
- Seonjeongneung royal tombs — quiet forest park beside COEX.
- Seonyudo Park — reclaimed-industrial island garden on the Han.
- Children's Grand Park · Seoullo 7017 skygarden · Ihwa Mural Village (go gently — residents live there).
Reservations & entry
- No visa or K-ETA for US citizens through 2026 — but file the free e-Arrival Card within 72 hrs of arrival.
- National Museum Children's Museum needs a timed reservation.
- DMZ requires a booked guided tour (skip with a 2-year-old). No permits for normal hiking trails. Hanbok rental = free palace entry.
06 — Money
Estimated daily costs
Family, hotel & flights excluded. ₩1,000 ≈ $0.73.
- Typical Seoul day: $150–250 for the family.
- Theme-park / day-trip days: $300–450.
- Jeju days: add rental car (~₩45–150k/day) + fuel; many sights are cheap or free.
07 — Getting around
Transport tips
- Get T-money cards for everyone 6+ (buy/reload at any convenience store). Kids under 6 ride free. Tap on and off on buses.
- Climate Card (unlimited Seoul subway+bus) can pay off on heavy in-city days — but it doesn't cover the airport, Everland, Suwon, or Gapyeong, so T-money is the more flexible default.
- Subway is the backbone: clean, cheap, English signage. Look for elevators with a stroller; avoid rush hour.
- Taxis: use the Kakao T app (set destination in-app).
- Jeju: car only — public transit is thin. IDP + car seats required; many speed cameras.
- Day-trip rail: book ITX/KTX via Korail or Klook; for Suwon/Incheon just use T-money on Line 1.
08 — Stay smart
Safety & common mistakes
- Seoul is extremely safe, including at night; kids are welcomed everywhere. Keep passports and e-Arrival confirmations secure.
- Emergency: 112 police · 119 fire/medical · 1330 24-hr multilingual tourist hotline.
Biggest mistakes to avoid
- Relying on Google Maps — poor in Korea. Use Naver Map or KakaoMap.
- Skipping T-money and fumbling cash at every gate.
- Over-packing the schedule — the 2-year-old sets the ceiling.
- Underestimating heat + humidity + sudden rain; carry water and a compact umbrella.
- Flash flooding in extreme downpours — Gangnam's low underpasses flood fast; in a heavy storm avoid underground passages and move to higher ground.
- Jaywalking (fines) and escalator etiquette (stand right).
- Tipping isn't customary — don't. Markets are often cash-preferred.
09 — Conditions
Weather & packing
Expect: highs ~80–88°F, lows ~64–72°F, high humidity (70–80%), intermittent sun early, rising chance of heavy showers in the back half. Jeju in early July is wetter still.
Pack
- Lightweight breathable clothes; compact umbrellas + packable rain jackets; quick-dry layers; a light cardigan (Korean A/C is arctic).
- Walking shoes and sandals; swimwear (hotel pools, Hangang pools, Jeju beaches, Paradise City); sun hats + sunscreen; mosquito repellent.
- Reusable water bottles; baby carrier (+ optional compact stroller); portable charger; kids' snacks and meds.
- Power: Korea is 220V, Type C/F plugs. Bring adapters and confirm chargers are dual-voltage.
10 — On your phone
Best apps & websites
- Naver Map — your #1 navigation app.
- KakaoMap — strong alternative; essential for Jeju driving.
- Papago — best Korean↔English translator.
- Kakao T — taxis.
- CATCHTABLE — fine-dining reservations.
- Klook / Trazy — discounted tickets.
- VisitKorea & the 1330 hotline — official info and help.
- KakaoTalk — Korea's default messenger. Weather: KMA app or AccuWeather radar.
11 — Straight talk
Honest notes
- Beaches: Seoul isn't a beach city — lean on the Hangang outdoor pools. Your real beach payoff is Jeju: Jungmun Saekdal below the hotel, Hyeopjae for the kids.
- Hiking: the gentle city-wall and riverside walks here are realistic with a toddler; the granite peaks (Bukhansan, Hallasan) are better as a split-group morning or a future trip.
- The finale is the point. Ending at Paradise City on the airport island means no city dash on departure day — just a short shuttle to the terminal, with Wonderbox to burn off the kids' last bit of energy.
- This plan has slack built in on purpose. If a day goes sideways, drop the "big" item and lean on COEX (or, on Jeju, the resort pool).
Pack light, start early, let the 2-year-old set the pace — the rest takes care of itself.
